Through various projects, I've consistently achieved 20-80% cost optimization with these key strategies: Rightsize Dev/QA environments: Run them only during business hours (8x5) and use appropriately sized servers based on actual load. Avoid replicating production configurations in Dev/QA. Automate server management: Implement lifecycle rules and auto-shutdown features for services like SQL Analytics, SageMaker, and S3. The 80/20 Rule: Focus on High-Impact Areas The most important principle is to prioritize optimization efforts. Start by identifying the 20% of services that contribute to 80% of your AWS bill. Focus on optimizing these areas first for maximum impact.

Great stuff! I'm surprised that not that many people know about Appsync and the benefits of it still. I share the same enthusiasm as Michael and Brice, after working with it for the last year. Especially after releasing the JS resolvers - instead of write VTL. Also great work with the DynamoDB libraries for JS-resolvers: it helped alot and are truly time savers.

This is a nice talk, but I would highly recommend the one on the same topic from the year ago: ua-cam.com/video/jAaqfeyvvSE/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AWSEvents. That rendition is livelier, and has additional topics like Nitro Enclaves and Virtualized vs Bare-Metal comparison.

Great talk, and I really appreciate the "side stories" from the presenter that provide more context, history and motivations for the content described on the slides! A much better talk than the one from the year 2023.

Thank you Boyd, this is a great presentation. The idea of instance-flexibility for spot instances changes my understanding of the service. It makes so much sense, but I did not realize it was possible for spot. I also really appreciated the comments on Graviton and Karpenter.

I agree with the other commenters that this video is exceptional. You two are very good presenters. This was just enough depth covering the right surface area of these products and features. I absolutely love the Amazon KB for my use case, and I love how much of the process Amazon manages for me, which allows me to spend less time developing and more time selling.

AWS needs to publish its carbon data before it can claim moving to the cloud reduces carbon by 80%.

S3 is in shambles, The AWS Apprunner team won't implement websockets even though it is the most requested feature on their Roadmap. AWS has forgotten its basic principles, customer-centric services. AWS also makes pricing so complicated that it's arduous to estimate what you will pay for in the end. Likely to give AWS a swerve in the future.
